Concept akin to creating an impression -- concept is not new, but the context is...

- Goffman's (1953, 1956) notion of impression management - part of a larger process where people seek to define a situation through their behavior, to define social situations by using contextual clues from the environment around them and the related social norms. Social norms emerge out of situational definitions as people learn how to read cues from the environment and the people present to understand what is appropriate behavior.

- "Learning how to manage impressions is a critical social skill that is honed through experience" (Boyd, 2007, p. 12).

- Sundean (2003) -- people must learn how "to write themselves into being..." -- so, what will this look like? What do we do? See examples section for possibilities.
